Color Play the Westknits Way!

This class is all about showing off beautiful yarns with simple techniques combined in clever ways. We will play with stripes, short rows, and holding two strands of yarn together to create marled colorful fabrics. Stephen will show off a colorful array of Westknits designs while encouraging you to look at yarn in a new way.

Materials

Bring a variety of colorful fingering weight yarns for swatching and US 8 or 9 needles. Lace weight mohair will also be great to play with during this class.

If you would like to start a Westknits pattern later in the class, bring yarn, needles, and pattern and Stephen will help you get started with your new project.

Shawl Design with Westknits

Stephen West uses his popular shawl designs to talk about shape, construction, and drape. Stephen will share his favorite shaping methods using top-down construction and short rows to explore the endless possibilities of shawl design. We will begin an adaptation of a shawl shape that Stephen provides or if you are adventurous, you can start your own shawl design!

Materials

Bring a palette of fingering or DK weight yarns to start your new shawl. I recommend bringing 2-3 skeins for a smaller shawl. Bring 5 or more skeins for a larger sized shawl with more options. You could try a shawl using neutrals with color pop accents or bring a speckled fade of beautiful hand dyed colors that inspire you.
